World Autism Awareness Day is celebrated on 2 April each year.

Like World Down Syndrome Day, the United Nations observes this day as a means to affirm and promote the full realization of all human rights and fundamental freedoms for autistic people on an equal basis with others.

The United Nations, in collaboration with the Institute of Neurodiversity (ION), is hosting a virtual event.

Self-advocates will provide their thoughts on the state of affairs in their respective regions, as well as the importance of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for autistic people to be able to thrive.
