Congratulations to the Down Syndrome Foundation of Zambia!

The team and their members have advocated since 2013 for World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) to be recognised as an official calendar day in Zambia. The Zambian Government has given the go-ahead and so this year, on 21 March 2022, the people of Zambia celebrated this day together.

In true Zambian style, the celebrations involved lots of music and dancing.

The DSFZ team also delivered their first Down Syndrome Capacity Building workshops to promote the inclusion of people with Down syndrome. Participants included Community Health Workers, Special Education teachers, Nurses and Midwives.

The recognition of WDSD will help the country to make progress in realising the contents of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (UNCRPD) which Zambia ratified in 2010.

A fantastic achievement!
