Becky Penrose, Community Fundraiser South-West UK

Our annual golf event was held this year on 13 September at East Devon Golf Club in Budleigh Salterton. I am not a golfer but I’ve been assured by those who do play that it is a challenging, but enjoyable, course. Even complete golfing novices can appreciate the course’s glorious setting, surrounded by the most beautiful coastal scenery.

The day started at 10.30am with bacon rolls and coffee for all and a chance to meet the other teams. All the teams were given goody bags containing golf goodies, a pair of our #LotsOfSocks and a cereal bar. We’re grateful to local insurance company ‘The Exeter’ for kindly sponsoring the goody bags this year. The first team teed off at 11am and our last tee off was at 2pm.

Several local companies sponsored holes. Thank you to all of them for their support for DSi and DSA (UK).

The golfers could choose to take part in various competitions around the course, including Beat the Pro, Longest Drive, Coloured Ball and Nearest The Pin.

There were goody bags given to every golfer, kindly sponsored by local insurance company, The Exeter

At the half way house tasty pasties, served up by members of the DSi team, were available for the hungry golfers.

After all the golf was completed the players and their guests enjoyed an evening’s entertainment. John Wood, our compere, began proceedings with a fun quiz before everyone sat down to a delicious meal. After our winning golfers had been presented with their prizes there was a grand auction and prize draw. Prizes for our golf winners included 4-ball entries to local courses, kindly donated by M.J. Baker Foodservice Ltd.

We would like to thank all the staff at east Devon Golf Club who went out of their way to ensure our day was a success. We would also like to thank John Wood for entertaining us all as compere, Graham Barton for his pin striped suit and fabulous auctioneer skills, Matt Round Photography for the fantastic photographs and last, but not least, our patrons Damon Hill, Michael Caines and Jack Maunder.

We hope to see you all again next year and will announce a date as soon as we can. If you have not previously attended one of our golf days and would like to be e-mailed with the details for next year, please contact us.
