The International Disability Alliance (IDA) have released its first global report on Inclusive Education - a cross disability perspective on implementing Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) in line with Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

The report states that building a truly inclusive education system is the only way to achieve SDG 4 for all children – including children and youth with disabilities – whomever and wherever they are.

This report...

• Lays down the minimum conditions required for inclusion of all learners – including learners with disabilities;
• States all learners with and without disabilities learn together with their peers in schools and classes in their local community schools;
• Calls for inclusive education not as an add-on to existing systems but as basis for educational transformation;
• Clarifies that inclusive education goes beyond enforcement of non-discrimination, zero rejection policies and the duty to provide reasonable accommodations;
• Provides recommendations to build an inclusive education system geared towards providing quality education to all children and youth equitably;
• Recommends phasing out segregated settings while preserving the unique skills to foster inclusive education in the broadest sense.
