I am the Community Fundraiser for Down Syndrome International (DSi). I work jointly for DSi and for the Down's Syndrome Association (DSA) both of which are based in Devon. As part of my role, I like to attend as many local events as I can, to engage the local community, spread awareness of Down syndrome and also to raise vital funds for the two charities.

These are a few of the events I have been to this summer.

Exeter Respect Festival, 8th & 9th June

This is the city's annual celebration of diversity, using performing & creative arts to engage the wider community to saying no to racism and all forms of prejudice. I was there for both days with my DSiDSA stall, selling a range of goodies including home-made jam and of course our #LotsOfSocks

Carers Week, 11th June

I was invited to have an awareness stand at Sainsburys in Alphington, Exeter. I was at the store for the morning and managed to speak to lots of people about the work of both charities. Following a chat with one lady, she then registered her daughter for our WorkFit programme. A few people gave donations too. Thank you for having me Sainsburys.

Newton Abbot Carnival, 13th July

I was pleased to be able to go to this wonderful event, in the town where the DSA office is based in Devon. I took my gazebo, leaflets about the work of both charities and lots of lovely merchandise to sell. The carnival was well attended and there were lots of stalls and other charities also attending. The weather was beautiful too which is always a bonus.

Thank you to everyone that visited my stands at these events. I am now busy planning my Christmas events.
