We were very angry and sad to hear about the killing of 4-year-old Liza Dmytrieva, who had Down syndrome, in Ukraine.

Liza was killed by a Russian missile strike while on her way to a speech therapist appointment with her mother.

On behalf of the Down syndrome community worldwide, we send our deepest condolences to Liza’s family.

This terrible incident illustrates the devastating impact that Russia’s continued war against Ukraine is having on innocent civilians like Liza.

We call on this pointless war to end and for children like Liza to have a chance at a future.
