Speaker biography

Mark Surabian has utilized assistive and instructional technologies to serve the needs of thousands of individuals with disabilities for over 30 years. He founded and operates ATHelp.org, a free AT clinic that serves children and adults with communication, vision, learning, and physical challenges, and ATTrain.org, a free AT professional training program for schools and agencies. He is an AT service provider to the NYC Department of Education and has served well over 100+ public, private, and charter schools. He is an instructor in assistive/educational technologies for the New York University Doctoral Program in Occupational Therapy, and the Graduate Education departments of Bankstreet College, Pace University, and St. Joseph’s College. He has provided training series for agencies such as The Everyone Reading Association, The NYC Special Education Collaborative, and The Teachers College Inclusive Classrooms Project, and presented at most national AT/IT/Ed conferences such as ISTE, ATIA, CTG, AERA, and ATCNE. He has volunteered his services to advocacy groups such as The UNICEF Innovation Fund, The Cooper Hewitt/Smithsonian Accessibility Advisory Committee, The National MS Society, Advocates for Children, and Parents for Inclusive Education. He is published, and collaborates on research projects around the use of AT for learning, communication, and accessibility.
