Over the last few weeks we have supported the Down's Syndrome Association of Nepal to hold two trainings for 44 parents of children with Down syndrome. Each training was 3 days long and covered important information about Down syndrome and how to provide the best possible care to a child with Down syndrome.

About the training

The 3-day training covered a range of issues, including:

  • Effective communication with children with Down syndrome
  • Identification of key medical issues.
  • Skills for the day-to-day care of children with Down syndrome.
  • Basic physiotherapy and speech therapy techniques.

For most of the 44 parents who participated, this training was the first time they received information about Down syndrome and how to care for their child. Many were very emotional during the sessions as they had never met another parent of a child with Down syndrome before.
