WDSD Conference

The World Down Syndrome Conference is an international conference held at the United Nations Headquarters on or as close as possible to World Down Syndrome Day, organised by Down Syndrome International and sponsored each year by Permanent Missions of UN Member States and international agencies and non-governmental organisations. The Conference has a theme each year, which broadly aims to advance the human rights of persons with Down syndrome and disabilities utilising the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and other human rights instruments. Speakers comprise a wide cross section from countries around the world and include professionals, advocates and self-advocates.

2014

Down Syndrome International would like to thank everyone who took part in the 3rd World Down Syndrome Day Conference, based on the theme "Health and Wellbeing - Access and Equality for All" which took take place at United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA on Friday 21 March 2014 in the Economic and Social Council Chamber.

2013

On 21 March 2013, self-advocates from South Africa, United States, United Kingdom, Brazil, Japan, Australia and New Zealand and specialists from every continent, discussed the "Right To Work" at the 2nd World Down Syndrome Day Conference at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Organised by Down Syndrome International, the event was sponsored by the Permanent Missions of Australia, Brazil, India, Japan and Poland to the United Nations, UN Secretariat for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and UNICEF.

2012

On 21 March 2012, self-advocates from Australia, Brazil, Peru, Spain and United States and specialists from every continent discussed inclusive education, human rights and political participation, independent living, how to work with the media and scientific research, among other topics, in the 1st celebration of World Down Syndrome Day at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Conference "Building Our Future" was organised by Down Syndrome International with the sponsorship of the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations, Permanent Mission of Poland to the United Nations, UN Secretariat for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities/ DSPD/ DESA, and UNICEF.
