DSI Outreach
A major direction for Down Syndrome International is to assist the development of parent groups around the world. It is hoped in this way to meet the goal of DSI to promote people with Down syndrome and the services they need to reach their potential. Through the support of these groups and their participation in DSI we hope to make the best use of resources and collaborations to enhance the future of people with Down syndrome, their families and the professionals working with them.
The Board members of DSI have extensive combined knowledge and experience which they are able to share with emerging groups. Through collaborations and sharing of resources it is also possible for the larger and more developed members of DSI to assist newer and more needy groups. Many of the members are already helping others in many ways but there is also under development ways being considered to increase and improve on current projects.
Some specific projects under way are:
Vietnam development of early intervention programs and parent group: Marja Hodes;
Network infrastructure in South Africa reaching out to other areas in Africa: Vanessa dos Santos;
Libya, a combined effort with funding support to develop the group there and assist them reach their goals: a DSI Board team.
