About Down Syndrome International (DSI)

Down Syndrome International (DSI) is a federation of international organizations and individuals committed to ensuring the quality of life and human rights for all people with Down syndrome.

DSI registered in England was established to continue the work of the former International Down Syndrome Federation, founded in 1993. DSI developed as a result of informal discussions at the International Down Syndrome Congresses in Mexico City (1981, 1983). The congresses inspired the following conventions in Brighton, Jerusalem and Florida. At the Florida congress a meeting between Jo Mills (Canada), Penny Robertson (Australia) and Sylvia Escamilla (Mexico) formalised the international organisation.

A dedicated board of directors representing many different countries strive to improve resources and information-sharing world wide.

DSI has the mandate to improve life for people with Down syndrome through increasing awareness of the their abilities and talents. By providing information and researching best methods DSI works with many organizations to improve the standard of care worldwide.
