Jessamy Tang has been involved with the Down syndrome community since the birth of her oldest child, who has Down syndrome, in 2009. She is an avid believer that those with Down syndrome should have the opportunity to develop their full potential and believes research, advocacy, and awareness are critical components. Over the years she has become increasingly active and has lead or been involved in numerous fundraisers which support different Down syndrome organisations.
Jessamy has co-chaired, A Swing for Hope fundraiser, in 2010 and 2011 which benefited Down Syndrome Research and Treatment Foundation (“DSRTF”). Past supporters of A Swing for Hope include the National Football League Player Engagement, Ritz Carlton Destination Club, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, San Francisco 49ers, Madison Square Garden, New York Islanders, Brooks Brothers, Morton’s The Steakhouse, and many more. She also serves on the Dinner Dance Committee and Golf Committee for Association for Children with Down Syndrome (“ACDS”) in Long Island, New York.
As a graduate of Stanford Graduate School of Business and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she began her career as a management consultant with Touche Ross. She then transitioned to a successful career in sports media before turning her attention to improving the lives of those with Down syndrome. As President and General Manager of ESPN 1250, WEAE-AM, in Pittsburgh, she led her station to locally earn four “Achievement in Radio” awards and one “Sports Personality of the Year” award. She has spoken on numerous panels and has served on various boards and committees including MIT Corporation Visiting Committee for the Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation and mentor for MIT Venture Mentoring Service.
