Down Syndrome International is delighted to announce that a resolution to designate 21 March as “World Down Syndrome Day” was adopted by the United Nations on Thursday 10 November 2011.

Crispim Antonio Campos

Country: 

Dr Campos was born in Franca, São Paulo, Brazil in 1955 and was educated at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) where he obtained a BA in Education.

He graduated in 2007 with a PhD in Social Psychology from Pontificia Universidade Catolica in São Paulo where his research led him to work with the parents of children with intellectual disabilities.

Dr Campos' son Felipe was born in 1997 with Down syndrome, and Dr Campos believes strongly in the special role and power of parents as public policy advocates for their children with special needs.

Dr Campos lives in Campinas, Brazil with his wife Camila and sons Felipe and Bruno and in his private life is a passionate lover of poetry, painting and arts. His attitude to life, opportunity and risk is encapsulated in the line from the Portugese poet Fernando Pessoa who declared that “to sail is essential, to live is less so.......".
